I also write short stories and other bits ‘n’ bobs.
A short story about a woman visiting Rockfleet Castle called The Dead Of Winter was published in Hennessy ‘New Irish Writing’ in the Irish Independent in May 2015 and went on to win the Hennessy First Fiction Award.
The Turning Circle (a story about a young man bemused by fatherhood who decides he has to learn how to ride a bike) won the Varilux Short Story Award.
And in the ‘always the bridesmaid’ category, in the past I’ve been shortlisted for: the Bridport Short Story Prize, the Fish Flash Fiction competition, Mslexia Women’s Short Story Competition, and the Molly Keane Short Story Award.
I am a contributor to: 26 Designs, published in the first issue of Fiera Magazine, to 26 Atlantic Crossings, a collaboration between Canadian artists and the writers collective ’26’ and the BecauseIAmAGirl blog, the Plan Ireland campaign to fight gender inequality. For RTE Radio 1, I have recorded pieces for Sunday Miscellany and the Book Show.
This photo is ghost signage that appeared after weeks of rain and wind in Weaver Square, Dublin 8, 2014. It’s a short story in itself, right there, on the wall.
